Dimensions Frederick The Literate Cat Cross Stitch Finish
Hello friends,
Recently my husband and I finished cross stitching the Dimensions Kit 'Frederick The Literate', and it was very much a team effort. I did all the cross stitching over a period of nearly two years, while my husband took on the much less glamorous job of completing a large amount of back stitching which brought the books, Frederick the cat, and the decorations on the bookshelves, to life.
My husband got involved with this project because I absolutely hate back stitching and specialty stitches. In fact, I'd rather leave a cross stitch project unfinished than do them myself, so having someone willing to tackle the back stitching was the perfect solution for me.
Unfortunately I don't have many in progress photos of this project, because mostly the stitching was done at night when the lighting was poor.
This project was very enjoyable to stitch, especially the Frederick the cat, and the fish, owl, and bird decorations.
Our least favourite part of stitching this project was the sparkly gold thread included in the kit. Gold thread is notoriously difficult to work with because it twists, tangles, and shifts as you stitch, making it particularly fiddly to thread through the needle and keep under control.
Despite all the frustration, it was fun to watch the lettering on the books come to life, and discover all the cat-related puns emerging as hubby back stitched.
With the final stitch completed, the Frederick the Literate cross stitch project is finally finished. It's been washed and ironed, and is now waiting alongside two other completed projects to be framed. I'm really looking forward to getting all three framed and up on the walls of our home, where they can finally be enjoyed.

Dimensions Gold Aurora Cabin Cross Stitch Kit Finish

Recently I finished cross stitching the Dimensions Aurora Cabin Cross Stitch kit. I bought this kit back in autumn of 2022, and have slowly been working on it every winter since then as a seasonal project.
Last year due to me having two cataract surgeries over winter, I was unable to work on it, so in spring last year I decided to finish cross stitching the project out of season.
Unfortunately due to it having a lot of back stitching, which I hate doing, it went on the back burner once I had finished cross stitching the project. But hubby came to my rescue and back stitched the project for me this past summer.
All that was left to do was all the many french knots for the stars, and I hate stitching those too. After some pondering about how to overcome this problem, this autumn I went along to my local Spotlight store and bought some small shiny beads that could replace the french knots. It didn't take very long at all to sew on all the beads, and after a couple of days working on it, my Dimensions Gold Aurora Cabin Cross Stitch kit was finished.
It looks so good all finished, and I can't wait to get a chance to frame it and put it up in our stairway wall. There's nothing more satisfying than seeing the end result of all your hard work.

Frederick the Literate Cross Stitch Project

I recently began a new cross stitch project, Frederick the Literate, by Dimensions. This cross stitch kit has been a unicorn project of mine for years, but until recently I haven't been able to get hold of a copy of my own. When I usually try to track it down, it's always out of stock in New Zealand.
Luckily one of my sister's found it available on Spotlight's website, and it was on special, so I bought it immediately before it sold out. After waiting for what felt like forever, and dealing with courier issues (who nearly lost it), I cracked the kit open and got started.
The kit contains two of my favorite things, cats and books, so I was especially excited to start stitching, even though the background aida was black in colour...
As typical with Dimensions kits, the thread was on cards, so I used a hole punch to make space for threads in progress. And since Dimensions often use combined threads, I had to come up with a plan to deal with these mixed threads as well.
And this is my progress with Frederick the Literate cross stitch project so far. The books on the top row, in the middle, are in progress. I never do any back stitching on a project until the end, so right now the books are looking pretty blocky. It won't be too long though before I start cross stitching the cat, which I'm excited about.
Luckily this cross stitch project isn't too big, so it won't take too long to complete over the coming months of autumn and winter.

Winter Aurora Cabin Cross Stitch Project Update
Hello friends,
Each winter I pull out my Aurora Cabin cross stitch kit by Dimensions, and stitch the lovely aurora and snow scene while the weather is cold. I never feel like stitching it in the other seasons, so it's now my winter cross stitching project.
At the beginning of winter I was only 25% finished, but now at the start of spring I think I'm at around 66% finished. I'm hoping to get the Aurora Cabin cross stitch project finished next winter.
And now that it's spring, I've begun a new cross stitch project, another Dimensions kit, Victorian Charm. My sister and I are both fans of the TV show Charmed, and this cross stitch kit reminds us of the house in the TV show.
Our plan is to stitch on this together over the spring and summer, and see how much progress we get. Luckily the aida fabric is a dark navy blue, so we don't have to fill in the night sky in full cross stitch. And I've made a very small start on this so far.
As this is a small project, not as big as the Aurora Cabin kit, I should make some good headway this year.
